Evaluating my blogging experience

My personal experience with this particular subject is very weird. I didn’t study or practice English since a long time. At first I thought that I would enjoy this class in particular, but with all the other things to do for the other subjects I never put the necessary attention to English. The lack of practice and interest in the previous years affected my abilities to write more than I thought. This specifically subject it has helped me to recover practice and remember some things that I could forgot. But it’s necessarily that I kept practicing, writing more often and not only like an obligation or assignment. In general the subject has been really complete. The activities in general had helped to develop various abilities like writing or speaking. Maybe I would add more speaking activities like the oral test from next week, because I think it’s the weakness of the majority of Chileans who study English. In first place I wasn’t keen about the idea of write blogs but it ...

My favourite movie scene

Imagen
I´m a big fan of movies, I like to watch the more possible and also like to go to the cinema. When I think of my favourite film, I can think about many good examples, but it´s a really hard task to pick only one. One of my favorite movies is “No country for old men”, a 2007 neo western crime thriller film. The cast of the film it´s just amazing and I think that Javier Bardem as Anton Chigurh is the best villain of this century. The film is about the persecution of a cowboy who found a suitcase full of money and ran away with the cash around Texas. The cowboy (Josh Brolin) is followed by the Sheriff (Tommy Lee Jones) who represents the good and by the bounty hunter (Bardem) who represents the evil. This movie has one of the biggest scenes in recent films history. In the scene Anton Chigurh the serial killer and bounty hunter enter to a store and made a coin toss to decide the future of the owner of the store, in other words, if is going to kill the man or not. The scene ...

Sexism shown in a fiction character that I love

Imagen
I love The Big Bang Theory, maybe the biggest sitcom of all times, it’s a really revolutionary show because put the emphasis in a forgotten group of the society, the geeks or nerds. The show had a lot of good things, but also some dark parts, one of those low points it’s the sexism. The biggest example of sexism in the show are Amy Farrah Fowler, the girlfriend of Sheldon Copper the protagonist of the show, and Penny the neighbor of the group of nerds.   Amy is a massive scientist and an independent woman, the conceptualization of Amy’s character could have been more awesome if it was not for the sexism in it. It’s a really awesome thing to have a female character with a science background, but often in the show this comes to second place. She is an accomplished women, but nobody could like her because of his appearance, meanwhile all the guys in the sitcom feel lust for the opposite character, Penny who is a hot waitress. The shows promote the women stereotypes fo...

My favourite piece of technology

Imagen
For most people the easy answer is that they´re favorite piece of technology are there cellphones, mainly because they use them all the time. But for me that´s not the answer, my favorite piece of technology is my TV. Maybe is a very nostalgic pick, because nowadays the TV has lost his reign to other platforms. I always been a person who spends a lot of time in front of the TV. Since I was a child I watched a lot of shows and programs when I arrived to my house after school. I like the TV and the contents that provide because is a very diverse platform, you can find anything. I mostly use the TV to watch shows and movies but secretly I also like programs about animals and nature, like the NatGeo type. Maybe the biggest problem with the classical use of the TV is that you cannot control the programming, but recently with the appearance of platforms like Netflix the power of watch what we want, when we want, is now ours.

A subject I enjoyed this semester

This has been one of the worst semesters in terms of interesting subjects for me, mainly because i think every class aren’t good, comparing them with past semesters. Except for one, the elective of international journalism.  The class of international journalism was a pleasent surprise for me because i wasn´t keen about the subject in first place. But the teacher, the dynamic of the class and the contents are remarkably good.  The class is mostly expositive, the teacher show content like fake news, the state of the global panorama and international relations, between others. Every class there is a little test about international actuality, and also activities and games about the same topic. Until now I made two short reportages about specifics situations or phenomenons that happened in other countries. The first one was about the conflict of the Persian Gulf and the seond one was about the case  Lava Jato  and the scandal of corruption of Petrobra...

A person in my field that I admire

Imagen
He is John Oliver, a british actor, comedian and TV presenter. With that description you might thinking, what he have to do with journalism? Well, Oliver host a show in HBO called “Last week tonight”.  Last week tonight is a weekly show about investigative journalism, but fulled of  satire, sarcasm and that kind of humor. I picked John Oliver because i think he as a figure represents all the members of the staff and people who makes posible the exhaustive investigation of important topics, but giving a twist of humor to the facts. He as the presenter and the show itself broke all the existent conventions of the american journalistic programs.  Oliver had speak about hot topics and others not so well known but also very importants. Examples of his work are investigations like the wage gap between men and women, the groups of white supremacists in the US, the amount of sugar hidden in the food or the conections between Trump and Putin. John Oliver als...
